Router Bits

Accessories for routers & Router Bits

Whatever type of router you choose, make sure you take into account the shank diameter of the router (this is usually 6 or 8mm). For 8mm routers, you can use both. Another important point to consider is the material from which the cutter is made. For example, cutters made of high-speed steel (HSS) are used for soft materials such as wood and cutters made of carbide (HM) for harder materials. Once you have made your choice, you still need to decide what type of router you will use. In general, there are two major groups of routers: groove routers and bevel routers. As the name suggests, groove cutters are used for making grooves, while bevel cutters are used for profiling the edges of materials.

There are special routers for wood. Wood routers even come in sets. There are various types of router that are good for use on wood, including the roundover router, the chamfer router and the stile and rail router. Do you want to buy wood routers? Then take into account the hardness of the router's material!

Choose a long router for extra depth. A standard router will not get you deep enough for certain jobs, so a long router really comes in handy! There is even an extra long groove cutter that you can use.
