What is a Tile Saw?

The tile sawing machine is a saw attached to a saw table. The saw is specially made for sawing hard materials such as granite and natural stone. The tile saw can be cooled in two ways, with air or with water. Most tile saws are water-cooled. Water provides an active form of cooling. Cooling keeps the saw from breaking under the extreme heat released during cutting. Water cooling is also practical because it washes away some of the dust. Tiles are also cut to size with a stone sawing machine. This is a similar machine with the big difference that it is not attached to a saw table.

Safety when using a Tile Saw

When sawing tiles, it is essential to think about your safety. Sawing through a tile takes a lot of force, and it can happen that besides dust also pieces fly around. Therefore, always wear safety goggles when using the saw. A mouth mask will not allow any harm against the dust, and the use of hearing protectors is definitely recommended. The saw must cut through a thick layer of stone, and for that you need a powerful but loud motor. A diamond saw is safer than a stone saw, because the saw is attached to a table, it cannot shoot under the pressure. So you are assured of a safe way of working, and you know that your tile will not be damaged unnecessarily.

What to look out for when buying

First of all, it is important to know how often you are going to use the machine. If it is a big job with many heavy stones, it is smart to work ergonomically. Look in particular at the tables that are height-adjustable. Does the intended job require a 400v machine? Or can it also be done with 230V? Are you a hobby handyman? Then it might be wise to look at the budget. You have a diamond saw blade from only €130.
