Correlation is a computer-aided method that allows leaks to be located very accurately.
Description
- A sound is generated from each leak, which propagates through the pipe and is transmitted to fire hydrants, fittings or gate valves
- The sound is recorded by the highly sensitive signal recording at up to three contact measurement points and transmitted to the correlator via the LD radio transmitter.
- From the running time difference of these signals, the LD20HC calculates the exact leakage position, taking into account the material, the pipe diameter and the length of the measurement path.
- Although it is difficult to locate leaks with other electroacoustic methods-especially in long pipelines-because of interfering factors such as weather, the depth of the pipe, or a high level of background noise, a leak can often be located without difficulty even in such cases use correlation.
- The LD20HC combines high-quality engineering "made in Germany" with the latest technology for leak detection in pipelines or drinking water networks and is therefore recommended as the optimal standard equipment for water suppliers and metrology service providers.
- At leakage points, pressurized water escapes and generates an outflow sound that moves in both directions through the pipes and is detected by highly sensitive sensors that can be installed at accessible points such as fire hydrants or valves.
- Because the type of water pipe always affects the sound propagation, the LD20HC allows the material and diameter of all pipes to be specified and up to 20 pipe sections can be examined with just one measurement process.
- The recorded signal is amplified and transmitted wirelessly to the correlator, allowing 256 freely selectable filters to be applied to the signal.

- The LD20HC can also be connected to a variety of structure-borne or floor-standing sound microphones for listening purposes
- For example, a combined ground microphone can be used to verify the leak determined by correlation, but any other acoustic leak and pipe location can also be performed.
